When we started Trans Joy, we did so in order to celebrate and amplify the voices of trans and nonbinary people while fostering a sense of community and belonging. As we explored fun and engaging ways to achieve that mission, podcasting became an exciting and natural next step. Enter Trans Joycast, our very own podcast where we bring conversations, stories, and insights from the trans community to listeners everywhere.
Why a Podcast?
Adam and I believe that the most impactful way for us to reach our community and beyond, is to allow people to get to know us. We have had so many amazing conversations with each other over the years, and we thought it would be fun and informational to invite our broader community into our space with us. Our intent is to bring a bit of joy into every show, while also addressing current events, speaking directly to our allies, deep diving into the topics of advocacy, and adding a little silliness from time to time. Podcasting allows us to connect with our community in a deeply personal way, no matter where people are. In a world where trans people are often spoken about rather than listened to, we wanted to create a space that centers our voices, our narratives, and our experiences - on our terms.
The Journey to Launching Trans Joycast
There's probably a million ways to go about starting a podcast, and we wanted to get ourselves off on the right foot. I researched platforms, tested equipment, and figured out the best way to edit and produce high-quality episodes. We know that the internet is forever, so with Trans Joycast, we are treating our content creation as more than entertainment and community building - we want this content to stand as a little time capsule from the trans community.
We chose Riverside.fm for recording high-quality remote interviews, Descript and Logic Pro for video and audio editing, and Final Cut Pro for video production. Our podcast is hosted on Spotify, which distributes the content across platforms, making it easy for listeners to find us. We also post a video version of the podcast to Youtube for those who like to follow along visually. And of course, every episode is announced and shared through our social media, making it simple to stay informed.
What to Expect from Trans Joycast
To this point, Adam and I have been recording episodes on our own - working through the kinks of remote recording, balancing programing ideas, and improving the production quality. We've learned a lot about recording, equipment, pacing, and editing just in the past couple of months. There's a lot more for us to keep improving, but we are very proud of where we are at right now!
Moving forward, we are excited to be adding interviews with interesting guests. We will also be continuing with our authentic conversations around current events, while dropping fun segments into the show as well. We can't wait to share what we have in store!
Looking Ahead
Our goal is to continue to grow Trans Joycast into a thriving platform that not only shares stories but also sparks change. We want to feature more voices, dive deeper into issues that matter, and continue uplifting trans and nonbinary people. Of course, we are always interested in feedback from our viewers/listeners - if there is a topic you'd like us to cover or a person you would like to hear us chat with, we would love to hear it. Your input will help shape the future of the podcast.
